A Message From National Big Hat President Bill Dredge
Summertime is here and I can’t wait to step out my front door and enjoy all the sunshine and warm weather!!
Right now, you will probably see lots of kids in your own community who are out riding their own bike for the very first time. That’s directly a result of all the wonderful work AMBUCS members have performed in recent years to make sure children with disabilities receive the AmTryke therapeutic tricycle. There’s nothing like seeing a young person’s face light up as they ride around with their friends or siblings on a bright sunny day. Our organization continues to make a difference in the world around us and bring joy and excitement to those that need it most.
In a few short weeks AMBUCS members from all over the country will convene in Rogers, Arkansas for the 2008 National Conference. As Big Hatters, the National Conference represents a grand stage in which we’ll get a chance to display our pride and enthusiasm. If you haven’t yet registered for the conference or made your hotel reservation yet, don’t put it off one more day. Trust me: you will not want to miss out on all the fun and fellowship that is sure to take place that week.
Big plans are in store for our annual Big Hat Breakfast, which they are now calling the Big Hat Bonanza (Has a nice ring to it, huh?). We will once again split our auction into two parts: a silent auction held throughout the course of the conference and our general auction at the Bonanza that Friday morning. The purpose of the Bonanza is to have fun and raise money for our Living Endowment Fund. Remember, we need you to bring some really great items this year that we can auction off. Also, be on the lookout for a special guest auctioneer at the Bonanza who is guaranteed to make this an unforgettable event. You’ll just have to be there to find out who it is. And don’t forget: The top Big Hat recruiter this year will receive $500 in auction money as well as free registration to the national conference. Speaking of the conference, there’s still time to sign up for many of the tours and event options that are being offered that week. I personally can’t wait to visit the Eureka Springs village on Thursday, July 17 and then check out the Guns of Arkansas Tour on Friday, July 18.
Finally, as I conclude my year as president of the Big Hat Club, I would like to thank my wife Gayle for helping me get through this memorable journey. She has helped me remained organized, focused and energized each step of the way! I also would like to thank our national president Connie Oltman for all her hard work and leadership. Truly a job well done. Let’s continue to celebrate all that AMBUCS has been able to accomplishment over the past 12 months and let’s get ready to do even greater things in the years ahead.
Shoulders Together
Bill Dredge
National Big Hat President
